Commitment to Diversity

A core value of the Prowler yearbook staff and mine is diverse representation. The word “diverse” can refer to minorities or as many community members as possible; we strive to include both.

covering diverse communities

Below are stories, edited by yours truly, that cover the nuerodivergent, LGBTQ+, Black, Hispanic, and female community organizations on campus.

coverage report

Ever since we switched to eDesign this year, I have encouraged my staff to utilize the coverage report to intentionally target students with zero to low inclusions in the yearbook for interviews. We still have work to do, but our scope of coverage has greatly increased relative to past years.

All coverage device

This year, I designed an all coverage device (ACD) that has been used on every spread of the book. It is titled, “What your today looked like!” This is based off of our theme, “Let’s see what today looks like!”

This device aims to increase diverse coverage and give students who are less involved in school an opportunity to be featured.

staff diversity

I believe our success in covering underrepresented students comes from the diverse range of individuals on my staff. We have women, people of color, nuerodivergent students, and members of the LGBTQ+ community who are passionate about accurately representing the various demographics of Willow Canyon. Our ability to make the yearbook room a safe space and support one another extends into the school. Our positivity puts interviewees at ease and encourages them to share about topics that are often shut down.
